Printmaker and textile artist, Celia Pickles is inspired by the colours, shapes and textures of Canada’s West Coast.
“I love to gather shells, wood, leaves and dried fruit to create garlands, wreaths and swags by weaving these materials together.
At the Dundarave Print Workshop on Granville Island in Vancouver, British Columbia I also produce collagraphs, etchings and monotypes – my favourite forms of printmaking.
I became absorbed in textile arts when I studied and graduated from the Textile Programme at Capilano University in North Vancouver, BC in 1997. From there I moved on to the Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2004, majoring in Printmaking.
For over ten years now I have promoted and hosted a show called Crackerjack. This annual event showcases and sells the work of many of the best of BC artists. It has grown widely in reputation and sales and will be held again in November this year at the Music Box in West Vancouver, BC.”
